The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology recently announced the third-batch of enterprises meeting the "Specification Conditions for the Waste Paper Processing Industry". By end of 2024, 16 compliant firms across China with 2.5 million-ton annual capacity were named.
Issued in Dec 2021, the rules cover layout, tech, resource use, etc., guiding high-quality industry development. In the three years since, compliant firms optimized operations, lifted quality and efficiency, and drove industry standardization.
Data from the association shows China's waste paper recycling exceeded 60 million tons from 2021-2023. Jan-Aug 2024 saw 51.15 million tons (up 10% year-on-year), with the annual total likely over 70 million tons. As the top raw material for papermaking, waste paper supports green industry growth.
Going forward, the association will lead on compliance and standardization, promote waste paper classification, and boost recycling and fiscal systems. It aims to scale up the industry, optimize resources, close the industrial loop, and improve efficiency and quality.
